Complexity and freshness are very well balanced.
Very intense citrus perfume, lemon trees, windfall oranges and lilies, lemon tart and cut apples. It’s a very aromatic glass of wine. The palate is quite dry, a subtle grip frames crunchy pears with bright lemony acidity, an earthy slightly curdy quality is quite varietal in a ‘northern’ sense. Sort out some picked eggplant quick sticks!

I spent a short but fabulous time in Sicily in 2022. My favourite eating and drinking experiences were the supermarket bought aperitivo and cantina bought local wines (aside from two very memorable visits with long time admired producers). Both the 2023 Rosato and Pinot Grigio are musings on these moments.

I think it's a combination of texture, line and subtle reduction that gives the Sicilian whites a viscosity and refreshing quality at once. Somewhat salty and white stone fruited, the wines go incredibly well with salty snacks in a casual setting.

Vineyard

From Igneous vineyard on the western slopes of Leanganook or Mt Alexander.
Planted on an E/W row orientation at 430m. On Quartz and feldspar sand, or decomposed granite.

Winemaking

Relatively low sugars at flavour ripeness for the Grigio in 2023.
Grapes gently crushed before pressing, followed by a very delicate press, trying to keep things light and fresh while taking some finer textural tannin.
Fermented and raised in stainless, racked multiple times as juice, mid ferment, and post primary to keep the wine clean and reduction in check. Some sulphur before bottling.
